Clinton Davies won silver in both the Greco-Roman and the Freestyle events at the Oceania Wrestling Competition in Apia this week.
Davies is 2nd in New Zealand for Greco, preferring this Greco event, as it allows him to use his technique of holding on to his opponent and then not letting go.
Being only partially sighted, Clinton hasn’t stopped him from participating fully in the sport, having wrestled for 11 years. He currently wrestles for Club Physical in Te Atatu. Clinton has coached for 3 years, including coaching fellow NZ team member, Joshua Downes. Downes also won bronze in both the Greco-Roman and the Freestyle events.
Clinton enjoys watching kids learn. He says ‘It’s great to watch young kids gain self-control and use their aggression without hurting anyone.’
Davies’ goal is to represent New Zealand at the 2012 Olympics.
